Sometimes I think I should just move to Texas. This will be my third trip since the first of the year.
Gonna hook up with Curtis "Littlefeather" Kellar and Jason "String Bean" Wesbrock for some mega bowfishing... probably throw in a little hog huntin, just because and there won't be a frog in south Texas that's safe.
Anyway, the adventure begins in a few minutes. My trusty steed is fueled and champin at the carburator in the drive way.
In it I've got 2 longbows, 1 recurve, a handful of fishin arrows and a double handful of broadhead arrows.
You all be good, be careful and stay tuned for updates. :p
I thought you swore off longbows
Have a safe trip Charlie, take us some pics!
Here we go again on another adventure! Thanks for inviting us all along Charlie. I always feel like I'm right there with ya' when you tell the tales. I'm heading to Canada Friday A.M. (only fishing, unfortunately :( ), so I'll have to follow along when I get back.
Have a great trip!
Have a great trip, Charlie. And try to keep "Bag Boy" out of trouble!! :bigsmyl:
Good luck and have a safe trip.
Good luck Charlie....and what Bob said. At least you'll have Jason to assist you in that task. :help:
Charlie...have a great trip! :)
Man, I can't wait to retire.
Curtis...don't take Charlie to "the" hole.....
That 6 footer is MINE!

Longbows?
LONGBOWS??!?!??
Alert the mods, some impostor just posted as Charlie Lamb....
Well isn't that intresting
The LAMB back shooting a LONG BOW :scared: :scared:
Must have something to do with GAR's or perhaps he really wants to PLAY with Curtis
I'll see if his cell phone gots a charge.......vance
:D He's shooting a longbow cause I told him curves was fer women, not bows! :saywhat:
After a breif pause he agreed and the rest is history. Charlie is a manly man's archer and will be weilding a longbow this trip. :bigsmyl: Stay tuned! I think theres a giant fish in this story. Just got to go find him first. CK
Good luck to you guy's Curtis. Great country and I expect to see a picture of "Truly" before long. That is that TRULY big boy that is running around down there. Thanks for everything you did in setting that up for me. We had a blast. God Bless
Hogs? Broadheads? I guess I've got some more packing to do. :archer:
Fixin to hear some YEEHAW down Texas way. Go gettem fellers.
Good Luck and be safe guys, can't wait to hear about it!!
Charlie,
You need to sign on at the Laguna as chief ranch warden! Tell them you only like to eat hogs and havies! They should have room in that new lodge for ya. I know you will have nothing but a good time hanging with Curtis an Jason, enjoy!! and have a safe trip!
Well Gang, Looks like Charlie made it to Texas just fine. He stayed at a hotel in Fort Worth and awoke to find he'd become a victim to the big City. He was robbed while he slept. Details are somewhat sketchy at this point but looks like they lifted him of everything including a bag of hunting clothes. You guys know the stories he writes about those bows he's been shooting for the last 25 years? Thats right, they were in the truck too! There was a ray of light though and the crooks(I've got better words) obviously had bad taste and decided the bows weren't worth as much as the bag of clothes. I absolutely cannot believe that the only thing they didn't take were the bows. Charlie would have been devistated beyond repair. I'll update later. No need trying to call Charlie. They stole his cell phone and GPS too. CK
Dang IT!! That sucks big time. I wish he had called, he could have spent the night here. We don't get robbed and I have the mounts on the wall to show the attempts.
Well at least there is a Cabela's between Ft. Worth and you.
Mike
Sorry to hear this! Not like any of Liddafellow's or Westbrock's huntin cloths will help you out Charlie!!! A shoppin you must go. Sure glad they didn't get your bows. Hope rest of trip goes much better.
Curtis.....call me if you haven't this AM.
DAAAAANG! Lemme know if you need anything Charlie and it's on it's way airborn!
Least they didn't get the bows.
Rabbitman, yet another proof the REASON they are crooks is they ain't bright enough to hold a decent job. Thankfully so in this case :knothead:
Just off the phone with Charles....He handeling it better than I had thought he would be. Doors are still on the Motel room at this time anyway and no broken toes from kicking anything.
He is going to continue the Trip. Better to lick his wounds with good friends, than to brood over them. One comment he made was "This ain't no Stumbeling Block it's a Stepping Stone"
Hes more hurt than any thing.
In the travel bag with ALL his clothes was his Presentation Douc Cambell Caper as well as his Bison Gear Back pack that had ALL the hunting gear. As well as his extre arrows.
On the brighter side he does still have the BOWS arrows that were attached to the fishing Bows as well as quiver and arrows that were on his curve.
To all his friends I'de just say keep him lifted up for a bit.........vance
I guess Charlie will have to go Abo on us and hunt naked!!!!
Funny how things work out. I'd rather they stole my clothes instead of my bow too.
Thankfully they did not steel the truck while they were at it.
:saywhat:
Makes me real sad to read this......I wish I could be there for my big friend. If there's anything I can do from here, please let me know.
CK,if I can find your #,I'm gonna call ya bud.

JC...They're not bright enough and way too lazy. There ought to be a bounty on them. This whole incident sucks. Wish there was something I could do to help right now. Curtis, tell Charlie we're all thinking about him.
Curtis,
If there's anything I extra I can bring that Charlie may need, please let me know. I'll make room. No problem.
Jason......Underware and a Shaving Kit

TTT for the next chapter, "The recovery".
This is the day we've been waiting months for. Jason Wesbrock should be climbing on a plane headed south this morning while Charlie and I grill up some baby-back ribs and final tune gear. The Weather Man looks like he is going to try and throw a wrench in things for us but we have a back-up plan. 70 percent chance of the wet stuff today and tonight. We may hunt pigs in place of fish tonight and go after fish tomorrow night. We'll let the weather help us decide. Hopefully this next chapter will go a little smoother than the first one. Gotta go get the grill hot now. Stay tuned. CK
  :notworthy: :notworthy:
OHHHH YEAAHHHH!!!
Good Luck and be safe guys!!!
Half-time report: Arrived at the dock as the rain was easing up a bit. The water still had a tea look but wasn't total mud. We decided we'd make the best of things in spite of the 15-18 inches of rain that has fallen along the coast in the last few weeks. The rain brought oxygen to the water which was keeping the alligator gar deep. There was no need for them to rise to the surface and things were tougher than we'd bargained for. The night ran into dawn and still found us standing up shooting the little ones. I think total count of the small gar was somewhere between 50 and 60. We strung them on rope and they stretched the entire length of my 20' boat. Not bad! Oh yea, Jason Wesbrock got to hold a live gator that decided it needed to be caught sometime around 2:00am this morning. That fella was grinning like a possum! The gator went free and quite unharmed.
Been raining on and off all day. We've decided we need no more small fish and don't want to hunt big ones while conditions are so tought. We are now off to find Jason a night-time hog to lift his adrenaline level. I'd better go wake the boys now. It's getting late. I'll update tomorrow. Be well and have a great evening! CK
thanks for the update bud....good luck to all!!
Thanks for the update Curtis. I been wondering what has been going on down there--like, it's been just too quiet! Was afraid youins was gettin
into trouble or somthing else fun....
Shoot straight y'all. Olebow
I'm having computer problems this afternoon. Weather related I'm sure. The second chapter is even better than the bowfishing chapter. Jason took some advice and did some night hunting for hogs last night at my lease property. That Lanky Yankee wacked himself a trophy tusker in the half moon from inside of 10 yards. This hog is a really nice, dominant Boar that'll tip the scales at over 200#. What a trip it's been for him!!!! Charlie is scheduled to do some relief shooting tonight if the weather and the moon hold good. Stay tuned! I'll have Charlie get on after his beauty sleep. I must say his spirits are drastically elevated after you guys pitched in for his recovery efforty. CK
Great stuff Curtis !!
200# pig by the moonlight. Jason you the man!
Cool, don't know if I could get myself to hunt in the dark down there, tooooo many things bite back! :scared: Way to go Jason!
David
Nice!! How about some details?
Face off with a dominant boar hog is scary in the daytime. Brave heart there Jason. Looking forward to the story and pics.
You're next Charlie. Go get one.
With three of TG's best story tellers together, who's writing the article???
Looking forward to the story and pix!!!
Congrats Jason!!! :notworthy:
Charlie here...I mentioned on another thread that I'm gettin ready to go out there and try to ventilate a porker. Just a little shootin session, some grub and a change of clothes and I'm out of here.
Having an absolute blast with these two guys (CK and Jason). Heck! It was even fun dragging out Jason's hog and he didn't slide all that easy. :scared:
He's taken up residence in a cooler under a mound of ice and should provide lots of tasty meals for the Wesbrock family.
Will update tomorrow about this evening's hunt.
Friendship is the best medicine!
Have a safe forth.
"Friendship is the best medicine"......
......good for you bud!!!! And same to you :)
Way to go Jason!
I can't wait to hear about this trip!
Congrats Jason!!!
And thanks for calling....and be careful in them cactuses :D ...I just got the two spikes out of my right eye lid tonight from trailing Guru's Javie during the mod melt.
Congrats Jason!
Good stuff. More. More :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl: ...Van
Nice!! Lookin forward to some photos and story tellin.
Well, I'm back home. Not even unpacked yet, but that can wait. I've got over 500 digital photos to go through, but thought I'd put this one up first.
To begin with, I'm no gator wrestler. I'd never seen a wild gator until the other night on Curtis' boat, so I ended up spending a lot of time trying to photograph them as they'd come along.
Probably the third or fourth gator we saw was this little three-footer that let us ease the boat right up to it. While I was up on the platform of the boat taking photos, Curtis apparently decided that I could take a lot better pictures with the thing in my lap. So he grabs a gaf and, without harming the gator, scoops and flips the thing right in the boat.
I stood up just in time for this very unhappy aligator to land on my boot. Without ruining my drawers, I got the heck off the platform while Curtis wrestled the gator into submission.
And he was right. It was a lot easier to take pictures with the gator in the boat.

Charlie centers up on a nice little spotted gar. Believe it or not, this was one of the larger gar we shot on that outting.

Uff da, dats a HOG. Would hate to try to drag that without help. Looking forward to the story and the rest of the pics.
Well, The final chapter played out last night as we pulled into the driveway around 10:00pm. Whew! I think we are all ready to get back to a normal routine. All this hunting and fishing has wore me out! Charlie caught the biggest catfish yesterday. I'd guess around 7 pounds. Really nice. We did some bowfishing on the way back to the dock and everything we shot was bigger than the night trip a few days ago. We did manage to get some photos of a gar in the 100 pound range but unfortunately he was already dead. Heck of a fish!
This has been a wonderful few days with friends. Im not sure how much better it could get. We bowfished, hog hunted, fished, and bowfished again. Oh yea, we also ate..... Pork ribs one night, deer steaks one night, and I can't remember what else. I think Charlie has pics for the grilling forum though. I'm quite sure there will be some stories when everyone gains their composure. Be well! CK
Looking forward to hearing more of the tales.
Nice hog Jason!
Like I promised on another thread, I am posting the pics of Charlie as he arrived and hunted his first day after his theft. This is the actual hunting clothes Charlie wore. Of course this pic was taken before I told him of you guys generosity in helping him recover from the theft.

Here is a shot of Jason and Charlie on our first night of bowfishing. Jason shot a nice shad. Those shad are hard to hit. They are fast!!!!

This pic is from yesterday. It was Charlie last day here in Texas. He went home this morning. It always bumms me out when he heads back home. We dang sure had a great time together this trip even after starting out with a robbery.

More to come later. CK
This pic says it all! Great times!
