Home from 8 weeks of 15 hour days, making a living and piling up the thilthy lucre for another year of hunting. I told them when I started that the first week of November was tree sitting time at home and that's where I'd be.
Got home on the 3rd, caught up on chores and sat a couple evenings on stand at the home place. Wanted to be at a special spot on a neighbor's place for the rut and they have always let me hunt. Went over Friday and found out two others are hunting there too and one was going to be there on the weekend. Son of a gun had set his stand near my favorite spot too!
Well I went in Sunday evening and set a ladder stand near the gate after waffling about the gate or the fence crossing. Sat there this morning and at 7:45 AM bucks chasing does were going past like shooting stars on a clear July night. The does lead them over the fence crossing and at 9:00 AM I moved the stand.
Got back there this afternoon a little before 3 and spent a relaxing hour and a half watching squerrels, dreaming of squerrel pot pie and enjoying warm and breezy day. Dang it feels good after two months of climbing roofs, sitting in Delbert cubicles and doing insurance claim work.
Back after supper...
Shaun, Very nice deer, sitting in a tree is way better then work any day even w/o the big buck...Congrats!!!
Thatun's got a wild rack there Shaun. I like it!
Congrats.
Was it as hot over there as it has been here? 74 degrees when we went to our stands this afternoon. Really has them shut down here.
Yes, its been too warm here and the deer have been moving late in the afternoon. Around sunset at 4:45 or so, I got serious. Stood up, nocked an arrow and set my feet for the fence crossing shot. 20 minutes later I hear steps behind me and pivot around as this buck strides into my back door shooting lane. No time to get buck fever... one glance and I make him for mature but weird. Take the deer given to me is my mantra, so pick a spot, draw the bow, anchor tight and let it go. Special thanks to whoever posted this refrain last winter - it has served me well.
The cedar flies and a Grizely hits spine between the shoulders. Down he goes. Knowing that spine shots are not quickly fatal, I followed up with another to the heart.
Could not have done it with wheelie gear. Too quick and intuitive for anything but a real bow.
Insides are outside and bark is off, he's cooling in the shed.
All right Shaun, good job.
Congrats. That's one neat looking rack.
Congrats Shaun! I love the character in his rack. :bigsmyl:

OK OK its a stretch but if you've ever been to the eastern shore, you'd know that's how they say it over there.
Anyway you spell it, it looks like a good time to me!!!
Way Cool Shaun! That's a neet buck.
Way to go Shaun  Mac~
Cool Shaun....d'em moabs is good uns.
Way to go Shaun!!!!! Thats a real nice buck there. Is that the same bow you had at my house on your last trip? Nice Buck. CK
Yeah CK, that's MOAB number 001 and 47#'s never felt so smooth or shot so hard. A turkey, a javie and now a nice buck have all fallen to this bow. May be time to take out the self bow and give the critters half a chance, well, maybe after the rut is done... still got another bow buck tag in my pocket.
Jim Reynolds - you da man! MOAB's are like my old Model 12 Winchester 12ga - just a damn meat making machine. Sure made quick work of the 2x4 buck who got too close. Gonna take Marsha to the two person stand tomorrow afternoon for her first sunset from a tree, you can bet her black glass w/ purple heart riser MOAB will be along.
Yea, I know what you mean about them Renolds bows. I had a Thunderstick 2 that I got from Chad Jones. I had to get rid of that damn thing. Every time I took it to the woods, critters kept falling over dead. :bigsmyl: Congrats again. That is a unique and nice buck. CK
Nice buck Shaun!
Nice buck and fun story, Shaun!! Thanks for sharing.
Shaun
Tell Marsha I said hi. She's a grade A lady. Cya.
