Thats right, next weekend is our opener in NY and I have invited him up to hunt the whole weekend. I have all my stands in place and I even went out and hung a couple for that guy that shoot wrong handed. I have one more to do. It works out good though as my dad is a lefty too. We are gonna have a sit in the morning and the evening and during mid day we are do some turkey huntin(Curt bring the DB)on one day and the other day we are gonna hunt pheasant mid-day. I think Dad will carry a gun and Curt and I the bows( Curt, Bring some blunts or judos or bird points and some flu-flus)It will cost ya $30 bud, as we have to split the cost of the birds. It should work out nice as I have enough area to hunt as not to disturb our deer huntin'! We both will be carrying our Kwyk Styks and I hope one of us or both have some hero pics. to post. I am sure with Curt there will be plenty of photos either way. It should be a blast!! Wish me luck(I did not include Curt in that, as he had enough of it.)(LOL!!) We will keep ya posted through-out the week on our preperations and such. Have Fun!!!! Shawn
I should mention, that if the wind is right Curt will be huntin' the RailRoad stand. It is called that because it is less than 100 yards from the 5th. largest Rail yard in the world. It is a permanent about 23 ft. up in a huge oak. The stand is huge as well 4ft. by 6ft. all 2" by 8"s and pressure treated. I have shot several bucks from this stand and I know there is a good one bedding near it. Dad will be in the airport stand, and me in the old school stand, as long as we do not get a wind out of the east, we will be good. Shawn
I remember that railroad stand, it was where i stood when we put on a push for bunnies the first year, real nice looking area that is, good luck guys, chomping at the bit myself
Yall have fun! Take Curt some altitude sickness medicine if youz gonna stick him up that high. CK
You guys have some fun up there. Shoot straight and stay downwind!
Good Luck Guys...... I mean Shawn :bigsmyl:
Keith
Sleepy, that be the one. Curtis, I was thinking a parachute so he can get down quick!(LOL!!) Shawn
Shawn, I love ya man, but I have to wish both of ya good luck. Now both go shoot something, then tell the stories.
David
thats exciting !!! bro.... :) marco#78
David, I wish you could make it. You were supposed to be here ya know. We will make some memories when ya come down during the rut!! I am pumped. I saw 53 deer on weds. evening and most were on property I hunt. Shawn
David, I am saving a stand for you. No one will sit it until you come down to hunt. If we get a north wind when you are here, it is about the closest I can gaurantee a shot as they come. Last year I hunted it 3 times and passed 10 different bucks and countless does. I shot a buck from it and my future Son-in-law(Damon)you met him at the bunny hunt shot a deer from it as well. Shawn
Good luck guys Just put up my last stand, can't wait shoot a big one...ED
Shawn,
I am counting the days as is. I am looking forward to that, as well as looking forward to what you guys do next weekend. (I'll be thinking about you guys while I'm at the hockey game with Hunter.)
David
Good Luck, Guys! Post some pics!
Good luck, we know the Kwik Stiks can get it done . . . make it happen!
Larry
Sounds like a winner of a weekend!!! Good Luck!!!
Happy Hunting!!! Chuck
Good luck to you both, sounds like you have it set up purtty good Shawn.
Thanks guys, the weather has finally turned and it is raining right now and about 35 degrees cooler than it has been. I hope it stays cool for the next few weeks. It has been so warm and dry the deer just do not move until dark. Shawn
Is it gonna be alright if I hand deliver this guy?

Man,I can't wait!! I just hope it stops raining by then.
My one and only goal for this trip is to be there if and when Mr. Leonard gets his fisrt deer with the bow.He told Shawn this summer that he sure would like to kill a deer with a bow before..well..his time is thru.I sure hope we can make it happen this weekend,so I can be a part of it!!!
That I would surely love to see. That is one of the things that would make my year.
That's nice work, wonder who the taxidermist is? :bigsmyl: Good luck you guys, and especially to Mr Leonard.
David
David,I plan on hand delivering your thang too...
I'm looking forward to that too, my friend.
David
Good Luck Guys!!! Have a great time. All the best, Al.
By the way, that deer isn't done yet.It needs to dry a few more day, then finish work done. Then it'll really look like something!!!
well post some pics of the finished product. I love looking at the detail pics of mounts. Or you could email me some when ya get er done.
Good Luck Guys! :bigsmyl:
Have fun and be safe! Post some pictures.
God Bless!
Jim
I will Chad..
Shawn,Should I bring my antlers for ...Dang if I could remember his name....to score????
I'll remember as soon as I add this :knothead:
Curt, yes Nelson will meet us at Dads and score your deer. If ya want them all officially scoredhe will do them all, meaning the 3 big racks. I went to our annual game dinner yesterday and spoke to him then. He will be there around 10'ish. It should be a good hunt and both Nelson and I have set stands for Dad, so we are all hoping it happens. By the way, I just got in and I saw 6 deer coming out of the piece we will hunt Sat. morning. It was pretty dark, but 2 real good bucks. It is only 3 acres, so if the wind is right OOOOOOHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHH!!! Man, that is looking SWEET!!! Thanks Bro!!!! Shawn
NELSON....Dang I couldn't remember his name for anything!
I'll bring them up then.Anything else I need to bring??? Besides the critter.........
Maybe a shotgun for the pheasant if ya want to do them. Man I am hoping we kill something, but as you know the hunt will be a great time!! Shawn
This is going to be a long week bud :wavey:
I love and hate anticipation!! Shawn
I hung one more stand this morning. I could not help myself. I kept seeing deer coming out of this inside corner and hung a bracket in there. I set it so a wrong hander and right hander can shoot from it!! Shawn
"wrong hander" LOL. I'd like to kill things like that "wrong hander" does.
David
Good luck you guys!!! Sounds like it,s gonna be a blast.
Nice work on them eye,s Curt
Southpaws rule
Thanks Tom..."the eyes are the window to the soul"
Yes, they do!!!
I know my dad is a wrong hander too!! It is just tough when ya invite a bud to hunt and 99% of your stands and stand sites are set up for righties!! I have worked hard the last couple weeks getting some ready for me two lefty buddies(Curt and Dad). It should be a good hunt and it should be good luck for me to get my mount back at the start of deer season!! Shawn
He's lookin' good bud,I think you'll be happy.I think you'll see a diffrence!!
Dang Curt,
That thing looks like it's gonna blink any second...
Awsome job...
Nick
Thanks Nick!!
Oh Man, I went duck huntin today and WOW!!! I hit on a spot that is torn up. A bunch of big rubs and such, so you know me. There is now a stand set up in there. Best of all any hander can shoot out of it and ya can get to it from my Dads in about 5 minutes and that is if ya had to walk. My brother was impressed at the sign as well. By the way, I did get a woodie!!(LOL!!) Shawn
Man I can't wait....
Bryan.. :bigsmyl:
I knew someone would be a little wise. I meant a beautiful drake wood duck, and yes the mount is awesome and I am drooling at the prospects this weekend. Shawn
!["" "[redneck]"]("graemlins/redneck.gif")
but who would want to be anything else. It is getting closer and if this  rain stops we will be in good shape. David, when ya come down ya are stayin' at my place so ya know. That should be a real ggod weekend. I hope Curt can make it as well. Shawn
Good luck guys. Pics please.
If this rain ever stops, there'll be plenty of pix.Should be able to update all that are interested Sat. night from Shawn's house.Looks like it's going to be a little wet though...I ain't skeert...you skeert Shawn???
Did you get a camera???
Hey Fellas,
Looks like the weather might break (fingers crossed)...Sat morning might be a bit damp, but they are talking about this low moving out Friday-ish...I hope so...I CAN'T WAIT TILL SAT!!!!
Good luck!
Brian
Yeah, I got me a camera and yes I hope the weather breaks soon!! It is pouriong again, my stands near the creeks will not be of any use as we won't be able to get to them. Shawn
Yea,pouring here too, haven't seen the sun in a few days now.Creeks are all over there banks. But we might get lucky...weather.com (for around here) is saying showers in the morning(Sat.),then maybe a little sun.Sun,chance of showers ,but real windy!!
Sounds like good huntin' weather to me :bigsmyl:
Type in your zip and see what it says for your area........
I think we have a better chance of staying dry on this side of the state than you guys do.At least I hope so I don,t wanna melt come Sat morning LOL
Looks like I,ll be wearin my waders Good luck guys
Good luck guys!
Yeah man, if the sun comes out Saturday afternoon we should be into a lot of deer. I know they lay up in the rain and once it stops they get out and feed heavy and man do I have spots for those conditions!!! Tom, me and Curt won't melt we may just shrivel up a little. Thanks Bill!!! Shawn
Ya mean you guy,s ain,t sugar ????? ANd I thought yous where so sweeeeet HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
May your arrows fly staright and true.............>
Wish you the best of luck this weekend guys. We don't know what rain is this year in Iowa. Don't even need the bow to Deer hunt. You just holler at them and when they start to run, they break there legs by falling into the cracks. Yep thats how dry its been (well purt-a-near).
Court until trhe last week that is how it has been here. Water table was down 15"s or so, now we are making up for it!! Shawn
Bill and Court..thanks....
Court.I'll be out your way around the 16th of Nov.,save me a BIG one!!!

guru you are a true artist you should be working in the museum of natural history in manhattan!!!
Curt those are great looking mounts. I don't know that I have ever seen a deer mount with teeth, that's pretty neat. Also, weired to see a whitetail rack that size without absolutely no brow tines.
Great detail work on both mounts.
David
Man, yaeh you should bring, like yesterday!! SWEET!!! Thanks man, I will have to try and put ya on a deer for sure!!! We have the same genetics in oput area. I have 8-10 bucks with no brows. It is gonna be good!! Shawn
Beautiful work Curt!!
I love the different looks other than left right or straight ahead poses and as Dave said, the detail is fantastic!
Good luck this weekend.
Larry
Thanks guys
Alright Shawn,I guess I'll bring it... :bigsmyl:
OOOOHHH YEAHHHHHHH!!! You may want to bring a thin pair of waders or hip boots. The wind seems to gonna be NW so i had to put ya in a real honey hole. It was a tough one to find, so I flagged it for ya, you should be able to find it at 5:30 in the morning. I just do not want ya to get wet on the way in and ya have to walk through a grassy field, so some hip boots may help keep ya dry. The area looks real good, nice funnel. I have shot a few out of it and there is always a good buck in there. Lance, saw a 130"er from it last year but 30 yards and no shot. I got the two way radios, as I will be about 1/2 mile away, in the door plant stand. I have a secret about where you are sitting and it will be a bit ironic. I have the camera ready and double bagged it, and extra batteries so I can take lots of pics. It should be good as long as it is not pouring and if it is, Dad has a good hot dryer at his house. Also for guys who are interested Curt is having a couple of his heads officially scored by a bud of mine. I hope he decides to enter at least one!!! Shawn
Good luck guys!!Im outta here for the weekend hopefully to test my new BH,s nice and proper like.
Tom, good luck to ya!! Curt, I forgot to tell ya!! Bring your favorite pillow(Cindy said so)and a pull up rope. Most stand sites have them but some don't!! Shawn
I always carry a pull up rope dude,no prob....
Ok, on the pillow
Shawn,I forgot to ask...how much deposit did you give me?????
I do not know how much you were charging. I gave ya XXX. I did not know what it was, I thought we were good, but let me know. I did not post it cause you gave me a deal!!(LOL!!) Shawn
Man I hope the rain we are getting skirts you guys a little bit. It is finally supposed to leave us Sunday afternoon, followed by high winds. Strange to see a system like this come in off the coast and move east like it has.
Good luck you guys, save one or two if you would please.
David
Curt & Shawn...
Good luck to you guys. Be careful out there, gonna be some mighty slippery conditions.
Curt, Ya gotta start keepin' better record's...that's twice this week I've heard that question about a deposit!
(BTW, Todd's buck looked awesome on the wall when we got it hung up that night)
Damn, I sure hope those 3 X's weren't kisses!! I mean, c'mon...a "deal" is a deal, but WHOA!!
:bigsmyl:
If he wants them to be kisses than I will oblige!! Anything to save a buck!(LOL!!) David, we will save ya a couple!! :bigsmyl: Shawn
Please...no kissin'!!!!
not on the "first hunt" :readit: :knothead: :banghead:
Now I'm going to dream about all the deer we're gonna kill this weekend!!!
Headin' out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are we there yet?
Heading out myself, good luck fella's.
.................put one in the boiler room................good luck........
Well... Let's hear it!!! How did you guys do???
Happy Hunting!!! Chuck
I am waiting on tenter hooks!
Curt, Shawn's deer is awesome! Did you age it? The face looks like an old guy. Your attention to detail can only come from a love of the creature that you are preserving.
I will now return to my seat and remain quiet.
Killdeer :wavey:
Curt On Shawn's computer............
We're still alive..we survived the rain and the wind......
Working on pix.....
Got home from work at 6am, hit the woods until 10, nothing but pheasants. Caught 2 hrs sleep and headed out this evening. Passed on 3 does and had a 6 pt just out of range at dusk. Can't wait til Sunday even though the moon is starting to shine bright...Good luck guys.
Curt and I got in the woods and sitting by 6:20. I sat Curt in a nice creek bottom and I sat the pine tree stand. The guys on the bunny hunt know it well. It is where all the rabbits come out of. We are both tired but I am gonna try and post a pic. and than more about the hunt!! Here is shot of me in my stand. Promise not Laugh!!
and the next is my beautiful bow hanging in the tree
(http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a317/Bird40/ShawnsPics003.jpg)
Be back with a littole more of the days and events shortly!!
Scouting reports!!! Rut Sign??? What did you guys see?????
OK Don't laugh at me!!! Charlie Alsheimer's book "Hunting Whitetails by the Moon" Has a chapter on predicting the future "Rut" that is LOL. His chart says we may have an early rut this year (???).
Happy Hunting!!! Chuck
On my way in to my stand, I pulled into the field and a nice buck was walking down the dirt road in front of me. I went to the stand and settled in. I checked my surroundings once light enough
(http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a317/Bird40/ShawnsPics027.jpg)
and my hunt began. I first saw several wood ducks and a couple squirrels, than I look behind me and I see a tree shaking. I take out the grunt tube and give a couple soft murps!! Here he comes and he is huge!! He steps into my shooting lane and I come to full draw, but I decide to let him walk!! I do not know if it is legal to shoot beavers with my bow!(LOL!!). I sat until 8:30 when I heard from Curt on the radio and than sat another 1/2 hour and headed out, alittl wet, but glad it was finally here. I will let Curt come on and explain his hunt. First another pic. which is Curt coming back water logged from his hunt!!
Curt here....
I'm gonna be quick,we're pretty beat..
Got pretty wet on the way in,settled in and the rain wasn't too bad.Right at 7:00,I saw a deer coming to me.I figure, man this is gonna be good.Pick up bino's and see it's a button buck.He comes by real close, but I just couldn't bring myself to shoot him even though Shawn and I said this hunt was about killin' some deer and getting some pix of us together.
That was pretty much it for the morning.
Afternoon,I was ina another stand, saw two spikes.Called the second one in real close, but Shawn doesn't know what shooting lanes are!!! Try as I may..I just couldn't find the shot even thought he was within 8yds. of me!!!!!!!!!
Shawn has a tree pruner, but I need to show him how to use it... :knothead: :banghead:
So close but no cigar...we'll try again tommorrow!!
I post my pix when I get home tommorrow...
Shawn Back
In between we went and had a buddy of mine measure two of Curts heads. One from Conn.(Avatar buck) and one from a few years back that was taken in Missouri.
Nelson Harrington is an avid hunter and has shot some big whitetails including a 170" mega buck. He is shown above measuring Curts one buck. With another bud as a witness. After the tape and pencil were done both of Curts deer qualified for P&Y. The Conn. buck netted 130 and 3/8ths. and the MS. buck was 126 and 6/8ths. I think he should enter them both as it is a great accomplishment and something for his kids to look at when they get older!! We than left for lunch and our afternoon hunt. I saw a doe and 2 fawns and a small 4 point all walk acroos this field
(http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a317/Bird40/ShawnsPics017.jpg)
They enterd the cover I was in and paused in a large opening at 30 yards, with the wind it was just to far for a shot and they slowly fed away. I also saw a few turkeys and darkness fell with out a shot, but there is always tomorrow. It was great day nice to spend it with a good friend.
P.S> The mount is gorgeouse Curt just hung it on my living room wall!! Good Night and we will have more tomorrow!! Shawn
Good Luck Guys!!!
I'm going up to my Dad's and try to finish putting the siding on his trailer. I'm going to take my bow up and MAYBE I might get to hunt for a couple hours. At the very least, I'll take my bow for a walk and do some scouting,I haven't been up there for 2 weeks.
Happy Hunting!!! Chuck
Good luck guys. I hope both of ya score in the morning.
Go get 'em guys, and keep the pics and stories coming.
David
Shawn...Please remind Curt to bring my Kempf STealth back down. I gotta show it to a customer this week. Thanks...
Hit the woods Sunday morning to high winds. Had 9 Turkeys walk by me but too many sets of eyes to even draw the bow. No deer...hopefully tonite.
Well, we are back in. It was lousy, the wind was 25-35 mph and gusts up to 50. I got in my stand in a nice creek bottom at 6:15, I had not been up there 5 minutes and 6 deer walk by at 17yds. Real dark so I could not tell what they were. I was visited by a couple squirrels and that was it. I sat until nine and headed out to get Curt, he is on his way home and will be on with some pics. I have a couple nice pics. that I will post later, after my nap. That is if I can do it with out Curts help. I also wanted to say we went to my dads and had a nice breakfast of Elk steak ands eggs, compliments of one of my buds and Dads chickens!! Later! Shawn
Shawn pretty much summed thinmgs up for today. Here's my pix

is that him curt behind v in tree next to dead tree on ground ? good pics guy!looks like you need a weed wacker type broadhead don't worry those leaves will be down soon enough!
Great pics guys. I like them pretty blue arrows in that last pic. Only question I have is, what happened to those "yellow 'nanners"?
David
Hi guys, I do have more pics. as well. I am gonna post them in the morning. The nanners were all I have shot for the last 5 years, I just thought it was time for a change. We had a great time and we both felt if the weather had co-operated we would of scored. This morning when I got to Curt in the tree, he said that it was the first time I had set him in a stand that he did not see game!! My batteries are dead so in the morning I will get more pics. posted. Shawn
Here is a shot of how I keep my feathers dry
(http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a317/Bird40/ShawnsPics025.jpg)
The zip lock baggy stays on very nicely. Shawn
Good luck guys. Keep plugging away. I passed on this weekend, got the weather from relatives upstate, and decided it was a no-go. Looking forward to this coming Friday. Had to kill a couple of burlap bags these past two days. You guys are sure scary looking with and without the masks on!!!! HA!!! All the best, Al.
Yes Twins....if Danny Devito and Arnold Schwarzeneger can pass as twins why can't you and Shawn with your scentb loc ninja headgear?...Mac~
PS Shawn...did you get the email I sent last week? Just wondering if addy works..
Mac, I changed providers so no. I will have a new one set up in a few days. I almost took a pic. of your favorite one of my stands on the way out yesterday. You know the one!(LOL!!) Shawn
Bpole,yes,that's him....
Mac,it's nice to have you back bud
Here's some pix from this mornings stand. It was terrible windy, sustained gusts of 50mph!!!!!
On the edge of a a big cornfield.A killer stand!! I could actually shoot out of this one!!!
David,I can definately see you shooting a deer out of this one!! You'll like it.....
I was only about 12 feet up,in a huge oak tree. The tree never budged, but I was actually blown off balance a couple times from the wind :scared:

This is how Shawn picks out his stands....check out his eyes....
Seriously....the boy has some killer stands,he knows his stuff boys. When Shawn puts you in a stand, you can be 100% confident you're in a great spot.
Isn't it something how such a great friendship can come from a guy getting a hole blown in his leg,and a guy he doesn't even know, sending him a heartfelt e mail about something similar he went thru???
Shawn,Thanks for all you did for me this weekend.I really appreciate your friendship, humor, dedication, and determination. We're one in the same bud.I'll see you again soon.We will kill some deer!!
David,You have a lot to look forward to!!
Shawn...got the bow from Curt...Thanks. I'm gonna post some pics of the Stealth whenever I use this roll of film up. Be talking to you...Joe
Curt,...... well you know!!! Thanks!!! Shawn
I am going in tomorrow morning and put up a stand for David in that little honey we checked out this morning. as a matter of fact Curt picked out the tree!!! Also check out Davids thread about the next best thing!! Shawn
I'd also like to thanks Shawns dad for 2 great breakfasts and Shawns "way better half" Cindy for a great dinner last night and some laughs. She's something else..... :notworthy:
Nice pics guys...what is the broadhead looking thing in your lower quiver attatchment Curt? Well from what your saying Curt that boy has powerful vibes to give you a stand you put 100% faith in even though he finds them with his eyes closed...now that's knowing the territory...Shawn email me a cell phone or telephone number...Mac~
Man, now I am all fired up!! I can't wait to get out there, and would have loved to have been there this weekend too. 12 feet is just about right.
Curt, both of those Kwyk Styks look great, but I'm partial to that osage look.
Is it still windy out there? Hasn't stopped here since last night, still at 25-30 mph right now.
David
Mac, It a milkweed wind checker....

Check out a thread that's probably on pg. 2 now about how to make one.
David,When you get there it should be rockin' bud.The woods will thin out, hopefully cold, and the buck(and there's a lot of them)should me on the move.Calling and rattling should be real good too.
The spot Shawn's settling up for you is a little honey hole.A prime spot to decoy and video too.Hopefully I'll join you guys for a day.Looking forward to it!!
It's bad windy!!!!!!!!!!!

I already see I have to use the zoom a little more!!
Here is my last one, this is the buck Curt shot last year in Conn. It is pretty cool to get your name in the book, and with traditional gear makes it more special to me. Ya did good brother!!

Cool pics...Love the sunset in the corn.
Thanks Terry
THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT GREAT JOB GUY'S ONLY THING BETTER THAN THAT IS DRAGGIN ONE OUT.
I should of been dragging tonight. I just could not get a clear shot, only 5 yards but no go!! Came in on the wrong side of the tree, if I was wronghanded, look out. Shawn
Let's hear it....maybe if you had a shooting lane cut????
Nope, I put a stand in the tree that you picked out in the spot I showed ya. The wind was good and we got some rain so I decided to hunt it tonight. There is a small apple tree behind me and that is where he came. He stayed tight to the tree and no matter how I squirmed I could not get a shot. He ate his full and slowly walked dead away. He was a small 5 point but he would of ate good. Shawn
Dang bud...so close...just like me the other day...no matter how hard I tried..just couldn't find a hole!!! :banghead:
Only a matter of time for ya...good luck man!!
I really like that spot!!!
Don't know how I missed this before...great pics and story guys. Nothin better than a good hunt with buds.
Man, I wish we had straight trees out here.
You guys sure hunt in some beautiful woods. Makes me miss Arkansas even more.
Here's to having a good time with friends. :readit:
