That must have been around Dillon??  I've lived in this state all my life, and I still haven't seen it all.

Tell me you were ready for the snow?  I've seen it snow in every month of the year here in the NW corner of the state (and thats at 3100 feet elevation.)

Awesome Pics!  Everytime I see pics like that, it makes me want to go back.  Used to live out there back in the early eighties, and I miss it immensely!  Can't wait to get back.  Thanks for posting.  What beautiful country.

Tim,
We must have been out there the same time. Beautiful pics. Did you hear any bugle?  They were all silent except one that called to a squakin bicycle brake for us.

Roy,

Yeap! I didn't hear a single bugle all week, talk about frustrating. The other guy in camp saw a small 5x5 and 5 cows the first night out 9/19 and that was it. We did see a cow here and there and a few dozen muley's but not a single bull. From what I've heard it's been a weird season throughout the state. There was sign everywhere and 7 bulls seen the week prior...???who knows what the deal was.  We did get 6 inches of snow on Thursday which we thought would get them going but again, nothing. Oh well, it was still a wonderful time for my wife and I.  (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v481/TimGolder/MontanaElk-11.jpg)

By the way, we hunted in the Little Belt Mountains southwest of Great Falls. Some of the photos were taken near Rte 15 between Great Falls and Helena.

NO WE did not expect a winter wonderland but it sure made for some good photos!

This is what we did when the elk hunting got slow! My wife did one heck of a job making it look like our outfitter! He never had a snowman in camp....

Tim,
I was hunting near Philipsburg for the first few days and then back towards Helena on the weekend.  Ended up seeing three bulls and a couple other's??  Never saw enough of the others to tell what they were.  I had a great time as well.

Tim, that was going to be my next guess...  You can tell by the trees and "parks" that its not west of the divide.  I've drove past the Little Belts a few times on my way to other hunting spots.  If it wasn't harder to make a living on that half of the state than it is here, I'd move there.

Looks like you folks had a nice adventure.  It's tough for non residents to hunt elk because you don't get to hunt an area every year and learn how to hunt the area.  As with any member of the deer family, learning the area and how to hunt it is half the battle.  Nice photos, thanks.

Sweet pics, Tim.  I liked the one where you can see the railroad tunnel in the mt., and Wendy liked the one of Cathy's snowman.

Great photos, Tim.  You're a lucky man, to share that hunt with your wife.  Where is Cochranville in PA?  I'm from Uniontown in SW PA.

Big Medicine, my family and I stopped over in Hamilton in August on the family vacation, on the way to Idaho.  We couldn't believe the beauty of the area and the nice trout stream at that park on the west side of town.  You too are lucky.

Jeff,

Cochranville is located just outside the Amish country of Lancaster. My home is located about 15 minutes from the Maryland / Delaware / PA lines.  We fortunate to be this close to Maryland and enjoy the hunting they have to offer.

Glad you like the photos. My wife and I spent several days in Idaho about 3 years ago. We flew into Boise and than headed up to McCall and than over to the Sawtooth Mountains for an all day horseback ride. Beautiful country there also! We than came back down through Sun Valley & Ketchum just to say we'd been there.  We both love the west and can't seem to get enough.

Take Care.....Tim

Stalker,

Don't ever say never. Once you get there it's very reasonable to stay in a motel or rent a cabin. My family and I have had some fantastic vacations out west for much less than you would spend heading to let's say Ocean City or Wildwood for the week. The expensive part is the airfare and you can look for deals on that end. Once you get there rent a car and drive. The scenary is a vacation in itself!

Hope you have a good archery season! Where exactly in NE PA do you live?

Tim

Careful Don...  I was on Montana Rail Link's website this morning.  They need a "Signalman."  Even though I'm gainfully employed in Kalispell, I'd love to get away from all the people.

Well, there's Montana and there's Montana. Rumor has it that Arnold Schwartznegger is about to officially annex the Flathead Valey and make it part of California. Don
