Tentative date for the GPSH will be January 22nd, 2005, at Shawnee State Park, Schellsburg, Pa. This year we are not planning on 25 inches of snow on the ground...keep your fingers crossed. The squirrel population is healthy and we have plenty of time to make arrows. We will plan on lunch at the picnic area pavillion by the ball field, behind the park office. And we will have awards. Cheap awards. Really cheap awards. George
That's a 100 mi trip for me... and that's not counting getting lost.... so probably 150 mile trip. Never been there but sounds like a fun day... and I have a set of snowhoes that have been begging me for two years to break them in real good.
I would love to attend if the offer is for the entire Gang... have 4x4... will travel. It's always fun to attach a face to a name... and I have a digital cam so lots pics can be had.
I probably won't even see a tree rat... but I guarantee it'll be a hoot!
Keep me in mind... and feel free to use E-mail for updates and specifics, food bringins, and whatnot's.

It's indeed an open invitation to Tradgangers and other traditional archers. There's plenty of squirrels to go around long as the weather cooperates. George
Frank B...Monroeville PA..I used to live in the Penn Hills area. How's the hunting these days in PA?
C'mon George!!! If we don't have the 25" of snow and then the freezing rain on top of it, how am I gonna shred my shins and knees into hamburger like last year? I thought that was gonna be a tradition!?!?
Hackboy (John) and I will plan on being there again. We were laughing about it just a few days ago. You've created a great event!
Looking forward to meeting some of the crew. Do you guys use flu-flu's with blunt's, or what?
Kevin............ Small world...........
I grew up in Penn Hills also... near the Bus barage on Saltsburg road [route 380] not too far from the Penn Hills shopping center.... Right near the border of Penn Hills and Plum Borough... on a street called Colonial Village Drive.
If you know where Washington Elementary is located [off of Universal road] I used to walk to that school every day as a kid... I lived a little more than a stone's throw away.
Penn Hills is what I affecionately refer to as "my petting zoo." Great archery there... and a few guns spots left.
Graduated in 1983 from Penn Hills.
Contact me offline and we can talk more. Gotta head back out and finish up the days work... but I'll get back to you tonight, for sure, bud.

George, "tentative date" ?? C'mon. You can make it a firm date. It couldn't be any worse than last year. Or more fun. Well....maybe a bit more fun than slogging through that crust... :)
Darren, looking forward to seeng you and your son again.
Frank, you won't need snowshoes. The Farmer's Almanac says so. :)
Phil
bout outta skwerl arras now!! benna shootin at dem pesky tree rats all year now and been thinkin bout takin the .410 out next time I go a hunting for em. Only got so much money fer arras and proly hav enuff for a small box of dem shells. How much for a non resident small game permit in my state of origin. Was born there in the great city of the 4 time (and maybe 5 time after this year) Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers. Never hunted in though. Say...that skwerl hunt aint gonna be on the same day as the Super Bowl this year is it? I might be in Florida 8-).
Super Bowl is in February so you are safe. Check license fees at: www.pgc.state.pa.us/ (http://www.pgc.state.pa.us/)
You can buy your license online as well.
Arrows are anything that is long enough to draw and put a point on. Bring both sharp points for ground shots, and some flu flu arrows for tree shots. We will be hunting an area that is predominantly white oak, and the mast crop was excellent this year. You should get some ground shots in the late season since that's where the food will be.
More to follow.
Sounds like something to look into! We sure don't have any deer to hunt around here! I feel guilty for killing the last one.
Tree rats are fun.
Tedd
Now Gawge...dont' go makin it the last freakin day of our season.so if it goes bad on us, we have a "blizzard date", whatcha think?
You gonna have campin spots available again? If'n I'm still outa work, I won't be motelin it.. might have to camp in the truck! I could set that ford on fire to keep me warm...
Phil, whatr's ya win for the longest arra shot lsat year?
May have to make the trip this year. I think I might owe Hackboy a few noogies. :smileystooges:
Gonna have Tshirts agian this year?<><
Dave, my prize was a couple of laughs and a "look at that!". :)
I wish the prize was the bow I shot it with. :)
As I recall, you got to walk a damn long ways in post-hole mode in hip deep snow with a crust to get yer arra back! :)
Nah, I walked down the plowed road, then on the crust to get the arrow. The post-hole mode was the morning hunting skwerls.
Phil
George ,didn't make it last year ,but it has top priority this year.
Bill Warren
George,
I couldn't make it last year due to work, this year is going to be different though. By hook or by crook, I'm going to be there. Can't wait to meet somemore of you guys. My only question is who's bringing the coffee? Keep us posted with details as they develop. Can't wait!
L8r
Gary
GaryD,
By hook or crook? Ya mean yer bring em along in the squad just so's you can get there?
We should talk closer on..maybe we can hook up and head out together...?
Doc
Was wondering where you were at! By all means we should get together and make the trip. I'll check and see if there are any cabins in any state parks nearby for rent. They are a great buy if you can get them. The plans are commencing........
L8r
Gary
Not sure if I'll be able to make it or not, a bit of a drive. For anyone who hasn't checked yet, Nonresident 7 day small game is $31.00.
Clint
Sorry can't let this one lay around, ttt
Cain't promise anything but I'm hoping to make it this year.
Last year I layed down my 'curve down so's I could fix my skwerlin' hat..... That danged ice covered snow took my bow 'bout 50 yd's down the hill!
Lookin forward to it! MJ can fix us some homemade soup for warming up!
Alright!!!! Something to look forward to.
I'll be there if my low slung Saturn will make it through whatever Mother Nature, or should I say Muthah Nature, has in mind for that weekend.
Hey...word has it that the January of 2005 will be one of the mildest on record. Heck, we may be hunting in our tee shirts and jeans. Well...maybe. We do have hard top roads now Larry, so I don't think it will be too difficult to get to Bedford 8^). Washington made it during the Whiskey Rebellion.
Anyway...the squirrels here are developing a superior attitude and need to be dealt with in an appropriate manner. Frankly, I think they are getting a little uppity...elitist, if you will. One was chittering at me this morning; I can take a lot of things, but chittering pi$$es me off to no end. They need a comeuppance.
I'm going to check out the Archery Only area of Shawnee tomorrow morning and see if I can find a whitetail that is hiding from the rifle hunters.
That area has a nice little line of hardwoods that harbors a few grays as well. I spent today with my granddaughter Amanda. We hunted in the morning; saw two does but no legal bucks for her. This afternoon we went to the park to review the bluebird trails and clean out the nesting boxes, so she can help manage one of those this coming year. The parks are in need of volunteers to help with projects such as the trails, and lately there is not many volunteers. Too many puter games I guess. George

Just a reminder from last year.
Is this a one-day type event or do you fellas camp out? Meathook, maybe we can grab Gary and drag him along?!?
ttt
Here is the link to the Super 8 motel in Bedford that Phil Magistro posted last year. I just made reservations for Friday and Saturday night with a AAA discount and it was $59.39 per night for two people or $61.55 per night for three people.
BTW, they have a complimentary continental breakfast, read that to mean coffee juice, and doughnuts or bagels. Their website gives the details.
See ya' all there. I hope to bring my 18 year old daughter along on the trip, she's been bugging me to take her hunting so this sounded like a good trip to do it on.
Now I just gotta find my nutters!
There's a few decent restuarants there if'n ya want a big breakfast. I'm gettin really fired up for this again George! Bedford is basically a town for travelers, right off the turnpike.
George just in case yer gonna have shirts/caps-I'll need a XXL shirt(for the missus he he)and a small fer my boy and of course 2 noggin caps.
The time is growing near!!
ttt
Anyone who wants to come Friday will be welcome. We can chase some grays then as well. The squirrels won't be expecting us until Saturday so we could get the jump on a few of them until they pass the word 8^). Those of you who have campers, or are just nuts enough to sleep in a tent in January, the campground at Friendship Village is open year round. It's just a few miles west of Bedford on Rt. 30. If enough want to come down Friday, we can try to have a campfire. We can hold that off until the last moment though, until we're fairly sure about attendance, weather, etc. George
yes I want to get a Tshirt..
ttt
George,
I will be coming in on Friday with my daughter, not sure of what time, but definitely in time for a campfire. I might be bringing one other person with me.
Larry
George,
Sent you an email!
L8r
Gary
Larry, Darren, Doc,
So far we have five total of the eight I need to go ahead with the rental. After that, it is going to be cots or sofas; but, the price will come down for everyone.
I still would like to see who else is heading to this event soon. I think that I need to move on this soon. I'm thinking that Friday check in is going to be somewhere around 3:00pm (at least that is what it is at other parks.) So we could hunt for a while before we check in.
Ad says that they even have an outside fire ring for us to use. I think I can throw some firewood on the back of the truck before I head out. If someone else brings some we should be set to go for the weekend.
I'll wait and see who posts in the next week before I make the commitment on the rental.
L8r
Gary
The house on the island is just four miles from my home in Manns Choice. You can smell the squirrels from there 8^). I think the office closes at 4PM, so it would be best to get there by 3PM. There are a ton of grays over there this year, especially on the oak ridge above and south of the dam breast. It's a nice area to hunt with some brushy hollows and a creek nearby.
Hope the weather cooperates so we can get in some good squirrel chasin. My phone number is unpublished so if anyone wants it you will need to e-mail me. George
Gary
Sent ya an E-mail.
I'm in. Let me know where to send the money order.
If I need to cancel [to chase deer] I will give that spot to someone else at no charge... and I can give at least "one weeks notice" in order to give someone else some time to prepare.
Either way it's a win-win deal. But like I said... let me know where to send the money order.
Never imagined I'd get so "pumped" for a squirrel hunt. :D
Thanks for your efforts, Gary. I appreciate it, bud.
-Frankb
ttt
I'm glad you didn't say "just" a squirrel hunt frankb 8^). It makes the squirrels angry if you think they are inferior game. These grays up here are jumpy as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. The good thing is the white oaks have been prolific this year and the critters had a chance to fatten-up pretty well. It will be challenging, that's for sure. George
George ...ya selling Tshirts again!!
I hear ya! Aint no such thing as "Just a squirrel." When I'm deer hunting... I see a bazillion of them critters. When lookin for rats... they know it.
Been getting outsmarted by them for years. I guess that makes me a little smarter than a chipmonk, now doesn't it!? :)
Wait... that don't sound right.
-Frankb
Maybe we all need to take tree stands and pretend we're hunting deer...then we can assignate them tree rats?
I tried that already. No... REALLY! I TRIED THAT! :D
-frankb
Mark, I haven't committed to tee shirts yet. Last year some ordered but never picked them up and it's a good cash layout to get them in the different sizes. Hats would be easier since they are one size fits all. We'll see as we get closer. Thanks, George
George,
Well there is an army of at least eight conscripted to do battle with the gray army starting on the 21st.
Doc, I thought treestands were the "deriguor" of the day for battling those pesky varmits! Now you tell me we actually have to be on the ground with them? But where will all of our arrows land? And who's going to be in charge of gathering them up so's we can reload? I'm sure that you've thought this all the way thru and the bases will be covered, right?
Can't wait to fling some nutters!
L8r
Gary
Gary,
In honor of our troops overseas I will use their terminology and say that some folks shoot ground to air, others go ground to ground, while others use sniper tactics and hunt from above. Whatever approach you want to use is OK as long as you are safe doing it.
BTW, everyone should remember that you need to show blaze orange on all sides, 360 degrees, and have some minimum amount showing. It is in the guide that comes with your license. Just remember that panels on the front and back is not adequate, it has to be on all four sides.
ttt
Ordered my license on-line this morning.
Like to go, but 836 miles to is a loooonnng way to go. Make sure yall get some good pics, I know it will be a blast.
Gary When can I pitch in for the room??
My wife makes a hateful good mushroom soup...I'll be bringin some along.
Man I cant wait!!!!!
George, Are "nutters" welcome???
Happy Hunting!!! Chuck
George, Should be there again, If we all pitch in can you bait them for us? Hope they will show up this year-have you informed them yet? Will try to bring dad also. jeff
Never thought of that, woodchucker.
Anyone know if Nutters are acceptable in PA?
-frankb
Someone was using them last year. I would assume they are. However I don't know if it is even in the game laws as to what type of head can be used for small game.
You may be the initial trendsetters if yer using nutters!
Maybe this warrants a call to the SW PGC office...
nyuk, nyuk, nyuk... I can just imagine that conversation now... and how it will come up in future PAGC presentations... LOL :D
-Frankb
They'll think we're nutter enough I'm guessing. I don't know why they wouldn't be. Bring em.
We aren't allowed to bait them, but we can taunt them...as they do us. I'll be off Wed, Thurs, Fri, and Saturday...so I'll be planning some dire moves on the gray buggers. I told the park manager, Bob Bromley what we were doing, and he got a chuckle out of that. I don't think that he thinks we're serious 8^). The oak flat above the breast of the dam has many grays. I haven't seen any fox squirrels at the park yet, but they are in the area. They are tough buggers, so bring on some potent heads for sure. I'm getting kinda' antsy now. George
George, I sure hope we aren't serious! If some of you are going to get started on Friday you can count me in. Weather permitting of course.
If you got "nutters", use 'em. I'll be packin' some of my new "DEE-NUTTERS"! I also use my squirrel catcher back quiver loaded with no less than 3 dozen flu-flus.
Ranger,
I guess if you got room in that toy truck, I'll bring a stand along for S'n'Giggles. I like finding arras. Only got 10 nutters ready to go with them special pronged buggars I showed you. :) :)
Dunno if they'll fly with the lighter limbs I have on, but hey, like I can hit a squirrel anyway?! :)
I can go BH from a tree stand anyway...
Blunts are legal so nutters are very blunt... actually downright rude when you get right to it! :)
If it's this warm, we'll need thermacells!
When we camped there this past summer, there were quite a few Fox skwerls behint the beach parking lot. They was making fun of the chubby guys in spandex....
While I figure they may want to taunt me in my spandex fancies thus bringin them out of cover.
I'll fix 'em....
Dave...I'll be off work that week from Wed. morning until Sunday night. We can start whenever you want *^).. BUT...you may want to bring four dozen flu-flus. I'm going over this Tuesday or Wednesday for a pre-emptive first strike. George
Well guys I got the confirmation on the lodge rental! We are on! As I said before, I could use a little help on the payment when you can afford it. You twelve know who you are, and the cost is as stated in the email I sent out.
Doc, we need to work on a menu, soon! Anyone else have concerns about food for the weekend? Let me know, asap!
Frankb, I got some nutters for ya, I'm sure you're going to enjoy!
I found out I got the weekend off yesterday, and man am I stoked!
I've been out bunny hunting a couple of times in the past week. It was a blast; but, no harvests! I think I have to work on my accuracy just a little bit more. I was able to send a nutter between the back legs of a running rabbit. Can you imagine the surprise of seen a nutter coming from between your legs as you're running down the trail?
Any of you traveling in a pickup, could you throw a couple of pieces of firewood in? That way we can have a fire outside Fri and Sat nights. Should be a great time!
ttt
I can probably supply some firewood from the woods behind my house. Got a couple of logs laying on the ground. Getting closer I can give you directions to my place, it's only 1 1/4 miles from the blinker light in Manns Choice.
Dale, you must have been at the east beach, up on the hill? I haven't been in that area this year. George
Dale,
If it stays this warm, that may be the gear of the day! :)
Gary,
Give me a call. We can whup up some stuff pretty quick I'd think. One big breakfast (Sat), cereal other morning (sun), lunch each person bring their own swamich fixins.
We could do spaghetti Fri nite... nice "carb load" for the heavy work on Sat. I can get some of the Ragu w/o onions I know about so I can eat.
Then Sat. nite be a BYODM (Bring your own dead meat) cook off outside, weather permitting... inside if not.
Anyone wanting in on the friday night dinner and Sat. AM breakfast fixings, just anti-up to us that bought? Sound simple enough?
All we need is a count for Friday night eats and Sat AM breakfast. I'll fetch food along for those two meals. Your ticket to the meal(S) is to pre-register (email me) and show some folding green!
Sghetti and applesauce for Fri
Egg's, Scrapple, toast for Sat AM.
:bigsmyl:
Gary, I sent you an email about room payment, but got no reply. I need your address to send the check. Dock, won't be there for Fri. dinner, but you can count me in for 2 for sat. breakfast. (let me know $ or if I need to bring anything) As for sat. dinner If I can bring anything let me know.
Bill
I think cumitavely Beastmaster and Hajas need 4 Hill style quivers each(Or a 50 gal bucket) and 18 dozen arrows.
IMHO.
Is you showing up Stagman??? I figgered you be chicken. HAH!
Cmon up! Maybe a 3 hour ride for you. Just off the PA 'Pike too.
HEY! We can shoot THRU Stagmitis's Double Bull again!! Them wasn't ventilation holes that Red and I put in fer ya.
BTW The Beastman hisself carries a 5 gallon bucket O'arrahs. I think he uses them for tracking purposes.
George yes it was on the east side, where a man in spandex is made fun of.... Times have changed... them danged rodents be toast!
I can have the missus whip up some homemade mushroom soup. It's purty fair stuff, but don't let her see anybody makin a fuss over it. She gets paid by "the quality" in my kingdom. :knothead:
I'm gonna try to get there if only to put a face to the handle (and get a good laugh). Ain't got no nutters or flu-flu arras so I'll stick to ground shots with judos.
BTW I'm bringin' the new digital camera. :bigsmyl:
Scott,
There's no time like the present to put together some "Nutters". It don't take no rocket science! Simple job and they fly fairly well too. Wait till ya see some of my creations, you'll bust a gut! You make sure you get over come #@!! or high water, and meet everyone. I think that is going to be the biggest kick of it all. I've been readin posts from everyone for over a year and I only have one face to a Nick so far. Can't wait to meet ya'll!
L8r
Gary
Pecker, sent ya an email!
S'getty and applesauce.Never tried that combo? But I'm game.Doc,could you email me your addy?
I'm still waiting to hear from Hackbow.I'll be coming in with him.
I ain't gotno nutters! But I do have plenty of arras to lose.LOL.
Guys/Gals,
Don't be counting on me counting up all the posts here for Fri or Sat am mouths to feed, please... PLEASE email me. Just click on my li'l rolodex card up top this post and you'll find my link for email.
Linc,
You want to fetch up salad, or french bread, or vino, you bring it on. I'm just gonna bring some sauce I can eat (allergic to anything with onion in or around it) and few pounds of sghets noodles. Just gotta get a handle on how many for Fri. and then Sat breakfast!
Then I gotta get a handle on Breakfast. I'll get a slug of scrapple, few doz eggs and some bread for toast.
Anyone wants to add on to that, feel free.
Whatever it costs, we'll just count the grinning faces and divide. No money needed in advance.
Course, Ole Ranger got the big bucks for the cheateau on his CC so he'd appreiciate advance payment!
I know you'll pay me when you smell them victuals cookin! :) If'n anyone comes to hunt Fri and kilts something...we can fricasse it up with the sghets. :)
HEY DOC.....who's bringin' the nutters????? Don't tell me y'all gonna have a good ole fashun skwerril killin and ain't gonna have nutters en mass!!! Heck, someone needs to go to home depot or lowes and clean 'em out of 3/8 dowels and 7/16 nuts. You ain't GOT to plane 'em if'n you keep em long enough. They'll fly....trust me. y'all need to show them PA bushytails what the power of the nutter truly is.
GARY- Now if you truly are the PA GNN rep, then its your responsibility ......nay ....... your DUTY to represent us well. show 'em how to make nutters. Bring Nutter Butter cookies. bash a milk jug around camp with a nutter. Heck bounce 'em off some trees and BY GOLLY you'd better take out a bushytail with a nutter!!! Step up and Rep-REEE-Sent!! Make me proud man.
Kyle
Hmmmmm ......how far is this event from Clarksville TN?????
Right fer piece up over'n hill and round the first 3 corners or so.
I got some yankee dude nutters...on chundo shafts! I might just as well take pics as shoot long... I think the pics might be half the fun!
:)
Kyle,
Just 10.5 hours to cover the 656.9 miles between Clarksville, TN and Manns Choice, PA. A nice drive in the country. I got the numbers from Mapblast. Ya' didn't think I made that trip every day did ya'?
TTT for them eaters to email me.
Check in for Friday supper and Sat Breakfast.
George Stoudt--yer my "guest" for both meals for setting this up! Ya comin? Doh...to the meals, of course! :)
Doc,
You mean you are actually going to shoot your bow?
I don't think I have ever seen you launch an arrow.
I see you at shoots. You carry a bow. I just thought you walked around talking all the time. ROFLMAO!
Awwww... Lohr, that just ain't RIGHT!
Asz ok..let me fix ya some special eggs'n scrapple Sat!
Doc I'll be bringin' some home made soup, either vegie or mushroom. We can feed on it either day.
Might even find some pawnhoss-n-syrup to nibble upon!
YUM YUM I'm gettin heartburn already!
Gary please email me!!
For the most part, brings what ya wants to eat.
For them what email me, I'll bring enough stuff for Spaghetti on Fri nite and Eggs/scrapple on Sat AM. We can divvy up the costs for them two meals among what eats...just let me know via email whose fixing on eating with us for them two times so's I can buy enough.
I figure fer lunch, we all can bring what pisin ya like stuffin in yer own gullet.
Sat nite is BYODM (bring yer own dead meat) and we'll cook it off somehow indoor or out.
Kyle,
I'm actually taking some "Nutters" for the less than fortunate or the dowel challenged! I figure that the one with the longest harvest will pick up an extra half dozen. Maybe the one who harvests the most or the one who looses the most should also get a pick me up half dozen. You should attend this all important GNN function don't you think! There's goin a be "Nutters" flying everywhere! Maybe we can get the local news affiliate to produce a short segment on the comins together of the GNN for this squirrel hunt! I think the possibilities are endless.
Dale, sent ya an email! Didn't know what it was supposed have in it; but, I sent it anyway!
L8r
Anyone know where I can get a blaze orange hard hat...?
Gonna be "raining nuts" here in a few weeks.... :D
-Frankb
Beastmaster...Can you get word to Scotty and Erik? How about Johnny H. and the gang? I haven't seen them since I've been overnights at work.
Others: There's a market about two miles from the rental house if anyone needs to pick up and extra eggs, bacon, etc. I know how archers eat when they get talkin'!
Frank,
Now you're a talkin! Somewhere it was said that a "Nutters" weren't for shootin up, I on the other hand like it when my nutters shoot up!
George.... You better tell them there, to fill up the shelves before we get there!
Any word on a shirt for this adventure?
Lookin forward to the get together!
L8r
Gary
Gawd! We;re gonna have to get up at 4AM just to do all this cookin eating and jawin! :)
I got an email from one guy said it's to be very warm. Bring thermacells or permanone...ticks'll be hatchin! :bigsmyl:
Good LAWD....10.5 hours? I may have to just be there in spirit....plus I ain't eatin no scrapple. Just can't do it. Y'all can have that stuff and I'm glad for you'ns that like it. I'll just be proud known that there's nutters flying and skwerrils .....well....at least duckin. When is this shin-dig officially kickin off??
Kyle
Saturday, January 22nd. Some of us will be in the woods on Friday afternoon.
Doc, I'll just be happy not to wade through 25 inches of crusted snow like last year. Kyle....I've slept 10 and 1/2 hours already and it didn't seem to take that long 8^). George
LMAO George. I ain't slept that much in the last two days!! I've got a little baby in the house tho who seems to think he needs to eat every so often tho.
I'll try an figger out if there's any possible way for me to get there, tho I wouldn't count on anything just now. I can handle 5 or 6 hours in the car no problem but sheesh....y'alls a long way from here.
Kyle
Now...fer a s'uthin boy, Kyle, yer sorta tickular about yer grits, aintcha? Scrapple just some hog mixed with cornpone... sorta.
No worse than chitlins, cracklins, fatback and freakin slimy-bad-cold-yuk biled okra!
If Van/Tx was a comin, I'd fetch along some "sweetbreads" just for him. Shouldn't take more'n 3 of us to tie him down and hold his nose to make him swaller some. I'm bettin he'd like er well nuff...
QuoteNo worse than chitlins, cracklins, fatback and freakin slimy-bad-cold-yuk biled okra!
heck I don't eat that cr@p either 'cept fer maybe the cracklins. Okra is meant to be fried not boiled. Ain't never et no chitlins, and I never found no fatback I couldn't do without.
Kyle
Eat chit'lins... man... can't even stand the smell of them being boiled. Fried? Maybe... doubt it though... let alone eat'n um. I'd rather slam my bow hand in a car door... twice.
-frankb
George, I already talked to Scott & Erik. We went "roving" last Saturday, first time in a VERY long time. It sounds like they will be there. I haven't seen Johnny since last summer. I'll tell Scott to get hold of him.
George, just sent you an email for particulars.....Yeah Doc, me and Mike are gonna try and make it. Hope your Christmas went well and a Happy New Year to ya.
Mike and I are gonna make that Pennsylvania Longbow Association Cabin Fever Pheasant hunt the 11th and 12th of Feb. We get home that Sunday and we are off to Georgia with some Maryland boys to hunt wild hogs at Horse Creek WMA that Wed.
If we don't see you at the GPSH then we'll be looking for you at Whittingham or Warriors Mark.
You going to make the Baltimore Bowman shoot this year?
Not sure about Baltimore. I work a wierd schedule and have to pick and chose my weekends with either comp days or vacation time. Retail management is not for those who like weekends off.
George, the Baltimore shoot runs from Thursday afternoon through Sunday at noon. If you cannot make it down for the weekend think about coming down Saturday afternoon/evening, share a meal, sit around a campfire with us, and then do some shooting Sunday morning before heading home.
What's this with this thread dropping off the first page? Get back up there!
L8r
ttt
So, it's less than three weeks away, what is the roster? Who all is coming?
ttt
OK... to date, I 've no clue who's coming to stay or who to shoot. Gary (ranger58) would have who's staying at the cabin adn GDS might know who all is coming to hunt/shoot.
For the meals, here is what I have:
Friday Evening meal
Ranger 58
Doc Nock

Doc,
There ya go! That ought to get some up and takin notice. Got most of the rental fee covered already.
Can't wait to see everyone flingin some Nutters over there. Those tree rats are in trouble!
Come on folks who else has the courage to do battle with these varmits?
L8r
Of course, now they tell us that come this weekend, it's to hit like ZERO degrees and stay in the freezer for 2 weeks...(which takes us to the GPSH weekend) might make them rats a bit hesitant to frisk about.
I know being up Central PA (Centre and Huntingdon) area this past weekend, it was a MESS! Poles down, trees down, woods full of busted tree tops..floods! I didn't see hardly any creatures anywhere for 3 days of pokin about... was a winter wonderland, though!
Guys, I apologize for not emailing returns.
I got hit again with another flood on thurs and Fri. I lost most camping gear in the 1st flood and then last week I awoke to my 2 remaining sleeping bags laying in another floded basement. I've washed them several times and the filling is coming out...
I still plan on attending Fri (pm arrival) and Saturday- (noon departure) I will be bringing some homemade soup and brownies.
I will also have my son Jared tagging along. He's soon to be 15.
Dale,
Sent you a PM. Let me know the answer to my 2 quick questions.
I have one spare bag...but it's a 3 season and will be somewhat hot in a heated camp...unless it is like to be terrible cold... :)
email me.
I can help out with a sleeping bag or blankets if you need. Don't sweat the small stuff 8^).
George
Finally getting back to normal around here...
Temps are supposed to drop down into the teens this weekend. Not sure what to bring... winter or summer gear. :)

One dowel rod............. .48 cents
Feathers from roadkill turkey.... .00 cents
One unsuspecting tree rat... PRICELESS!
Ata boy Frank, now ya got it! That's what I'm a talkin about. Let them nutters loose. Can't wait to see ya flingin your new nutters up into the tree tops. It's gettin closer y'all
L8r
Frank,
Bring it all! Thataway, we won't get caught off guard. This deep freeze needs to get gone afore we get out there...
GDS..work on that won't cha? :bigsmyl:

You boys think these will work?

We will all get together at 8AM on Saturday morning at the picnic pavilion behind the park office to start Saturday's hunt. It's easy to find, and spacious with plenty of parking. A good spot to call home for the day. We can have lunch there as well. For those never at the park, there are two entrances; US Rt. 30, and State Rt. 96. The office is right along Rt. 96. Entering the park from the Rt. 96 side, you would go past the office and make the first right, and the picnic area is only about 1/4 mile on the left. If you come in from the Rt. 30 side, go to the T and make a right. Follow that road and cross both bridges...then as you reach the top of the hill after the second bridge, you will bear left on that same road that takes you to the picnic area. It's about two miles through the park from the Rt. 30 side to the office. If you come in Rt. 30 from the West, you can make a right a the light in Schellsburg onto Rt. 96, and go about two miles to the park entrance on that side. All but about 200 acres of the 4000 acre park is open to hunting, so there are plenty of spaces. Lots of oak with white oaks predominate. And, they bore very well this past year. Gettin' anxious now 8^). I'm going to round up some prizes for various reasons...to be a surprise. It'll be fun. George
boys, I guess those of you coming for breakfast best be there by 6:30. I might need some help getting stuff ready... most might already be staying there, but if anyone else is interested, email me for Breakfast.
George, I'm counting on your presence to bless our mess! :)
Doc Nock
Doc,
I will help out with the fixin' and cookin' in the AM. We can let Sarah do the dishes. :D
I won't tell her you said that... Beins the only woman in camp, she'll likely be "primed" anyways!
!["" "[dntthnk]"]("graemlins/dntthnk.gif")
Doc I married a 5th generation Italian gal. She makes a fine sauce ya want me to bring some?
Hi guys, I'll be in the Pittsburgh area during your hunt. I've been talking with Hackbow on another thread about bringing a 4 years old to your hunt. I am not sure how you guys run things and if the littln will hold you back or not on your hunt.
The kid's birthday is the 23rd and I am coming up there to celebrate his birthday with him and give him his first bow and arrows donated by Bill W. So what I'd like to know if there are any objections to me coming and bringing this little one with me. If you have any objections feel free to PM or Email me and there will be no hard feeling whatsoever. I would not expect you to raise your concerns in public.
I understand that weather will be a big determining factor of whether we come or not. I'd love to come alone, but I am there to spend some time with him. If we cannot make it we will just shoot in his backyard.
Thank you, Jeff S.
Dale,
Sent you an email! Get back to me.
Jeff,
Why wouldn't you bring the little guy along? I thought that this group was trying to encourage youngns to follow along in our steps. I'm sure that he would be welcomed with open arms. Bonus being that we all get to meet you and usn's likewise. It ain't that far you know! Hope to see ya there at least for the day.
L8r
Gary
Jeff,
I'll vote for you and your son coming along. A bunch of us are staying at a house on the park property (Shawnee Lodge) and you and your son can probably do your shooting there in the afternoon, play in the park if that gets boring, and then stay for dinner and the campfire afterwards. You still have time to get a small game license so you can go hunting, and he can come along with you. I don't think anyone will write your son up for squirrel hunting without a license. A great day "with the guys" for father and son.
Larry
By all means...bring the child. What a great experience. The area is actually user friendly and not steep or treacherous in any manner. There's lots of room for him to shoot his bow there in the picnic area as well. George
Heck yes bring that little one, even if its just for the day!
If you two wanna stay at the cabin... I aint got any objections to that either.
Gotta go... Hope you and the little one can make it.
Frankb
Hey Jeff,
I think that two of the twelve staying at the lodge are only going to be there on Friday night. I don't know where everyone will be sleeping; but, you're welcome to hang your hat if ya want.
L8r
Gary
I emailed his mom trying to get permision. Is there anywhere nearby to purchase a license? I'm afraid igf I get it online it won't get here in time.
Jeff,
most, if not all, stores have returned their unsold licenses. I have to go downtown next week to get my son's. I'll check and see if I can pick yours up for you, with copies of pertinent info, etc.
Don't sweat it.......His mom said no.....says he's to young...
Oh well, bummer....I don't have kids of my own so I have to respect her motherly decisions
Jeff I'll be a bit miffed if ya DONT bring the child!!!!. We'll be leaving sometime saturday, most liokely after noon. There'll be room for 2 after we leave.
Ya may try to get yer license online.
Dave I havent yet recieved your email...
I found a FL.Orange hard hat at work!!!!!!
So... I was planning on taking off work that Friday.
Who else is planning on hunting there during the day and staying Friday night?
-Frankb
ps-it hit 69 degrees outside of my house today.... and they're calling for temps in the teens on Saturday. Gotta love it.
I plan to be there on Friday. The time will depend on if my daughter needs to go to school that day or not.
Good, good, good.
Looks like I am planning to be there for 11:00... gonna get a little hunting in before check in time also.
-frankb
Dale,
I wondered why I'd not heard back! Is the email on your listing above your post correct?
Try emailing me, please so I can get this resolved with you. I appreciate it!!!
FrankB,
Ranger and I will roll in before Noon, Lord willin and the cricks don't rise. We have to get the cabin paid for and opened up for guys..
Then we'll be out hunting... shooting ...something
I'll be around Friday all day and may do a little squirrel checkin' in the A.M. to see what the little gnashers are up to. I'll find you guys at the Park house sometime afternoon and have some maps for everyone. Looks like the temperatures (highs) aren't going lower than the low twenties next week, so it may not be as frigid as was first thought. I'm designing the ultimate squirrel arrow to be given to the one most deserving...and I will pick the winner 8^).
BTW, the squirrels seem to be showing no fear..we may catch them napping. Or they just may be acting cool. George
Yeah, George.... them varmits is just waiting till we get there and then they have a bus tour set up to head to Disneyworld! :D
Anything less that a few feet of snow with 3" of ice on top will likely beat last year, from what I read! LMAO!
Can't wait to see you!
WOW!
I've been following this post since the start & was all psyched up to get there with you guys on Saturday. . . .
Then I did the mapquest thing to find out just how far it is.
Well . . . it's just short of 300 miles & 5 hours! No can do!
Guess I'll be here thinkin' of you on the 21st.
Have a great time!!!
Larry
Larry,
Where's your dedication man? I'll bet if it were an elk hunt, you'd be there in a hearbeat, huh? Them pesky varmits are even more challenging, you know with the smaller vitals area and all. And to think, if'n ya get one, ya don't have to stop for the season, ya can keep on flingin those "nutters". It really ain't that fer..
L8r
Gary
LAR43,
Come on man, I drive farther than that to go to ETAR or GATAR! Jump in the car Friday at 7:00 and you'll be there by 12:00 in time to have lunch with us, stretch your legs and whatever else, and then go skeer some skweerls.
We got room for ya' to spend the night and be all rested up on Saturday.
Snakeeater
George,
Joe and I are hunting in Shawnee on Saturday the 15th. Last day of deer is a good excuse for me to drive over. We will do a bit of squirrel scouting as well.
Doc and Snakeeter, I will tie up a few like we arranged. See, I didn't forget. I will mark your map so you can find them.
I'm planning on hunting all day on Friday. George, I'm sure we will bump into each other somewhere in the park during the morning. See you guys for lunch!
Dave
RED BEAST MASTER AND MY SELF WAS WAS OVER AT SHAWNEE CHECKING OUT THE TREE RAT POPULATION AND WE THINK IT WILL BE A GOOD HUNT . HOPE EVERYBODY MAKES IT .
MR PERFECT
Joe, I was also over between two and three and saw several along the road into the upper cloverleaf. I'm posting a new thread on meeting time, etc., so everyone will get a look see.
George
RED BEAST MASTER AND I WAS OVER AT THE PARK TODAY AND DID A LITTLE STUMP SHOOTING ON SAT THE 15TH . WE DID NOT SEE ANY GRAYS BUT I KNOW THEY ARE THERE .WE DID NOT HUNT REAL HARD . WE DID NOT SEE ANY DEER EITHER BUT TALKED TO THREE GUYS THAT SHOT AT ONE WITH A MUZZLE LOADER . WE ARE PLANING ON MEETING AT THE RANGER STATION AROUND 8.00 ON FRIDAY SO SEE YOU THERE
Doc that is my correct address...
wonder why?
Ranger you'll be getting some snail mail...
ttt
I'm getting my stuff together for the weekend and wondered if anyone knows if there are cooking utensils supplied with the cabin? Is there a microwave, Dishsoap ,Etc. I plan on bringing some deer stew and snacks for Sat. and plenty of arrows. Hope to arrive sometime Fri evening. Looking forward to finally meeting some of the GANG.
Bill
Bill,
Gary feels he'll have enough stuff for general cooking and such in his camp kit. One thing that a person might wish to bring is some extra paper towels and cleaning stuff... He doens't know about a microwave. STove w/oven normally.
LIghtweight (plastic) cultery, paper plates/bowls, paper towels and lunch fixings might be smart.
Sat. nite will be a "cook off" of shared stuff... or bring your own. Whatever works for you.
That is what I know...fwiw...
Almost all of the modern cabins in Pennsylvania State Parks are supplied with microwaves. I suspect this house is as well. George
Doc what time is dinner for friday nite? Mary Jo is gonna make some homemade soup. She makes hateful good tasting soup.
Jared and I wont be up till around 6 pm I guess.
I think we can stay most of the day on saturday.
If you guys wanna eat earlier than 6 go ahead.
I'm gonna bring my Coleman Tailgating grille. I also will bring some coffee.
I have some old ash wood that's been layin around for some firewood. MAybe I can get some wood from my buddy, so we dont havta buy any...
Friday nite, we'll likely try to eat about 6-ish or so... be hunting till close onto 5...so till we get stuff a bilin and stirred, you outa be there! Ain't no biggie as to time... we'll keep eating till it's all gone and all's fed that wants ta belly up.
We'll be having the spaghetti stuff Friday... but yer welcome to sit a burner on for the soup... might be nice for thems what come in from the COLD Sat. mid day, too.
Wood's good. You mean you won't be there for the Sat. night cookoff? And big campfire? :(
Ok..we'll have to do a fire Fri, too, if'n you're fetchin along some firewood.
HEY GUYS I AM NOT SURE WHAT ALL OF YOU ARE PLANNING ON FOR DINNER ON SAT BUT I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE UP A STOCK POT FULL OF HAM AND BEAN SOUP .I WILL BRING MY PROPANE COOKER AND GET IT READY FOR DINNER . ALL I WANT IS AN IDEA HOW MANY WOULD BE INTERESTED IF ANY.I WILL DO IT ON A DONATION BASIS . LET ME KNOW
Joe,
Sat is potluck, bring what ya got...sorta thing. Cabin has a 4 burner elect. stove...we hope for a outdoor fire..might be rightious cold though... I'm hearing in teens at night with snow possible Sat...
If it's too cold, there might be competition for cooking surfaces Sat. night! :)
DOC THANKS FOR THE INPUT I WILL KINDA WAIT AND SEE
WHAT GUYS THINK THIS WEEK AND TAKE IT FROM THERE .THAT IS WHY I PUT IT OUT ON MON TO GET AN SOME INPUT . WERE IS YOU CABIN AT I ONLY LIVE 5 MILES FROM SHAWNEE .
JOE
Brother, Joe,
I hope to blazes that Ranger58 knows..he rented the danged thing from the state in the Park...sleeps 8 and we got more like 10 already... :) I'm riding wit him!! :knothead:
More'd'merrier... so far, only one lass...but snake's li'l gal Sarah can hold her own again any 3 boys...she's got brothers!
I'm figurin that if the weather goes sour, that ole cabin might look like a version of 'animal house' Sat. night! :)Lots of stay overs on the floor! :)
Doc,
Joe might only live 5 miles from the park but I waited 45 min for him to show up last Saturday! The boy has no concept of time at all. LOL
We did some recon and stump shooting. Didn't see a squirrel to save our lives! I think George is pulling a fast one on us. I know one thing, I'm going with George! He has to have a honey hole ridge in the park somewhere. He's been hearding them for weeks I bet. Probably has plans to limit out by lunch and take all the prizes too. Hmmmmm.
Dave
RED BEAST MASTERS COULD NOT SIT TIGHT LIKE HE WAS SUPPOSED TO DO AND WENT DRIVING AROUND THE PARK LIKE SOME KIND OF TOURIST . KNOW YOU KNOW THE WHOLE STORY . I TALKED TO RYAN TODAY WE WILL BE THERE AT 8.00 ON FRI MORN WITH BELLS ON BUDDY AND YOU BEST BE THERE IF YOU KNOW WHAT IS GOOD FOR YOU FELLA .AND I AM NOT KIDDING EITHER . HA HA
JOE
I got a story 'bout Shawnee
Shawnee permits pets in a part of the camping area so we took the new beagle pup up there over the 4th of July.
So me-nda-family get to doin some fishun....We go over to the parking lot close to where we is bedding up at the lodge.
I look over to see some fine lookin young lady just layin on the shore, right along the water, right after a hateful storm.
So I walks up to her and ask her if she's ok. I get no reply. Man she's just layin there. uh oh.
No for some reason or nother I have encountered quite a few dead folks in my life, I mean I have found them, on several occasions. Dont know why. God must trust me to do what's right I guess.
Back to the lady. She's a nice looking gal, and in her car is a case of beer and a carton of smokes. Seems she may have been on a date of some sort.
I cant see her move, not even breathe! So I send in my wife and she walks up to the gal and yells at her. Nope nothing. Man this gal has expired!
So A firetruck drives by, and I flag em down... Well they coulda cared less it seems as they looked at the gal without getting out of the truck they keep on agoing! Don't know where they was from but they HAD TO get back I guess.
Next Thing I do is let my wife and kids there and I go chasing Mr.Park Ranger. 'Course I had a devil of a time finding him. Finally he pulls into the lot and there's about 4 other folks just gawking at this lady. My wife and kids told them "Dad says she may be dead".
So this ranger guy walks up to the young lady and in a real low tone- so he doesnt scare the crowd- he say "Miss you all right?"
Well dont ya know that lady just about jumped outta her clothes when he did that! She says she's ok WHY??
Well about this time now I was the one who was in need of some doctorin'.... Yup the Missus and kids wont let me ferget about that neither.
Seems the young lady was quite "ill" and had to sleep it off. So she pulls into the lot and drops right down on the lake shore...
So wonder if those squirrels are gonna do the same to me now?
WEll, if'n the squirrels (furry ones) ain't active, it might pay to jes sit quiet and watch you two... You related? Sound like for real brothers! LMAO!
I'm tellin you that this cold will freak em out... I think them tree rats go south... to see Ms. Susan and eat cookies!
Dale,
That is an incredible story... but I gotta tell ya..I hope the only dead bodies you enounter on this trip is pesky tree rats!
We're lookin for that soup on Fri and whenever you roll in, we'll fix you a spot! :)
Dale,
I bet you are an Alice Cooper fan. Did the song "Cold Ethel" come to mind? ROFLMAO
Doc,
I don't claim Joe as blood! He's too ugly to stand next to me in family pictures! We are brothers of the bow though, even if he ONLY shoots Martin recurves.
Brother Joe,
You gotta stop typing in capitals man. I'm getting bug eyed reading your posts.
George,
You have to let us in on the location of your squirrel stash. Maybe if we passed the hat amoung the guys once or twice?
Nu-ugh, Beastie Boy... I get first dibs on the honey hole...I invited George to Breakfast... :)
Oh...but thanks for Josie Wales to quit "hollarin" at us in caps! :)
Anyone else note that ole Dale is a concientious fella and never touched the "dead gal" and made his wife do it... :) What a gentleman...
Maybe them fireman knew her by reputation and knew she was a boozer... :)
Sounds more like wisdom to me Doc. Hmmm, I can go over there and check on her and maybe get hit with an assault or attempted rape charge...or, I can ask my wife (another female) to go over and check on her. Yep, that has less risk involved in it.
What I didn't understand was why nobody checked for a pulse, unless they were asceered of catching something from her.
I dunno...boot toe sounds harmless enough...
Guess if someone would've cracked a beer next to her ear, she'd have sit right up! :)
How'd we git on this again? Oh, yea...squirrel hunt and squirrely woman! I got it now.. :D
Snakeeater and Doc- My hands was covered in nightcrawler guts...
There went your chance to wipe your hands...
What were you thinking?
-Frankb
You need to be looking for a house, not a cabin. It is the "only" house on the island between the two bridges. That is where the main office for the region and their maintenance building sits.
The high for Saturday is supposed to be 18 with possible snow flurries. Any accumulation isn't expected until starting Sat. evening and right now they still aren't sure. So far we've had only about an inch of snow in the park. It may get into the 20's and that's not too bad for January, especially when you don't need snowshoes.
Dave....two of those squirrels were by the parking lot before you start up the hill to the cloverleaf above the breast of the dam. They could have just gotten off the squirrel bus, but I didn't see any tire tracks in the dirt. Our best bet for bushytails is in the brushy areas that surround the old Dietz road...it goes from the dam breast out to Rt. 96. Up above the dam, there is much brush along that oak flat, and there was much activity in there in late November. In addition, the triangle of land between the Rt. 30 access road and the east beach has quite a bit of brushy draws there next to the oaks. I feel sure we will get at least some shooting.
BTW...All...The grocery store in Manns Choice sells the best bacon in the entire world. Ask for Yoder's bacon...they will slice it for you. You may never want to leave if you have some Yoder's bacon for breakfast 8^). George
Remember...the guys on the mountain, Somerset/Johnstown area, have about five times the snow that we have off the mountain here. We should actually be able to see the ground in some places. George
Now George... dang it hoss... I just fetched up 2 dozen eggs, 5# of the best local scrapple and 10# of taters for Sat. breakfast... I'll have all them burners goin and you go psyche them boys up for bacon... Oh, yeah...I got a pound of them sausage links too. Case some miscreant don't eat scrapple!
I CAN NOT WAIT TILL FRIDAY MORNING IT WILL BE COLD AND ALL THOSE FURY LITTLE GUYS WILL BE IN THERE NESTS . I ASKED RYAN HOW MANY GUYS HE THOUGHT WERE COMING HE SAID 50 DOES ANYBODY REALLY HAVE AN IDEA ?ALSO I WONDERED HOW MANY GRAYS WE WILL KILL HE SAID ONE SO ANYBODY HAVE A GUESS ON THE KILL OR HARVEST TO BE CORRECT .
JOE
Joe, there's going to be a mess of guys but most of them will be at the cabin cooking, eating and drinking coffee. :)
The latest forecast is for a low Saturday morning of 12, a high of 19 and periods of heavy snow. Any squirrel in its right mind will be snug in a den tree or in the attic of the cabin. :)
Friday will be cold - 19 - but partly sunny. The squirrels should be out running around before the storm.
How many will be killed?? I'm going to say three. Two on Friday and one on Saturday.
Well, it looks like this weekend is going to be for the hearty! Just great weather for stalking bushytails! All's we will need is some wind to aid in the event. Stumps beware! The campfire is going to be an event unto itself! The low is to be around 5 degrees on Friday night. This had better be a very large bonfire! Coffee for everyone! Still I can't wait! Lookin forward to it all.
L8r
I kept hoping George would push back Sat.'s start time an hour to let them critters get the arthritis outa their l'l joints and get moving about...
Oh, and the squirrels, too... :bigsmyl:
Doc, You can sleep anytime but you can only hunt squirrels when they're in season. Just get up an hour earlier. I heard that old folks don't need as much sleep anyways...... :)
HEY! Whipper-snapper...I resemble that Comment! :bigsmyl:
WELL YOU KNOW WHAT LARRY SAYS GET ER DONE . WELL I DONE GOTER DID . I HOPE YOU ALL CAN MAKE IT THIS YEAR I THINK THE WEATHER WILL BE A LITTLE BETTER THAN LAST YEAR .
JOE
ttt
Uh......
Anyone bringing any liquid refreshments [other than pop, H20, etc]?
-Frankb
George,
That's a good question. Do you have an direction, since you are the organizer of this shindig, on alchoholic beverages or lack thereof?
It's a State Park. Alcoholic beverages aren't permitted.
Better bring a load of coffee. :)
Phil
yea i think coffee or hot choclate will be the order of the day . i know the weather for the day is going to be in the high teens . and snow so dress warm iknow i am going to wear extra clothes . see you all later.
joe
That's right...no alkyhol!
Doc...We'll get them started and then we can sleep in the truck till about 11AM...go kill some squirrels...and be back by 11:30 8^). Maybe! 18 degrees, snow flurries...sounds like Springtime.
Now, George...we got them fancy digs and it's warm there...we'll just slide on back and do "lunch" early! :) :) :)
Try this link....
http://www.distaste.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/squirrel.gif
Now you'll see what we're up against!
There be others that are huntin skwerls!
http://www.greysquirrel.net/reb.html
I think we will need some bigger arrows. They spotted a cross bred squirrel near the lodge.
Larry...I hat to make you nervous, but that's a photo of the average Shawnee Park squirrel. An immature one at that. George
The Squirrel Poem [slightly edited version]
When I try to sleep at night
There is a noise above my head
Sometimes it is so loud
That I jump right out of bed
I throw things at the ceiling
And dodge them coming down
I try every little thing I can
To stop the squirrels from running around
They wake me in the morning
And interrupt my sleep at night
I think they're having a party
Or maybe a really big fight
It's fun to see them play
While eating peanut butter
But when they cease to be adorable
I shoot them with a NUTTER!!!!!!!!!!
:bigsmyl:
Good Gravy, Boys... y'all got way too much time on your hands! LMAO!
BTW, Don't forget to bring your orange hat and vest!!! Just re-read to be sure...archers for deer and MZ (which is closed now) didn't need orange...but small game always needs 250 sq" so vest and cap!
Might as well put a bullseye on the vest to give then ninja saber-toothed squirrels a target, eh?
George, at least we will be able to hear them roaring on a fresh kill, so they should be easier to find.
Ta hayall with nutters...I'm brinig 160 gr. STOS!
Lookin' forward to seein' everyone. But our plans have changed a bit. My son and I probably won't make the start of dinner Doc, but we should be there to help finish it. Save a few tree rats for us to shoot on Saturday.
Hey guys it's here already! Just waitin on Doc to show up and we're on our way. So who's afraid of a little snow? Should prove to be an interesting weekend I would think. Looking forward to meetin everyone, tellin some lies and laughing together. See ya in a couple of hours!
L8r
Gary
Day One was a cold 5 degrees with clear blue skies and 3" snow. Absolutely beautiful!
Joe, Ryan, and I hit the woods at 9:00AM. We did some still hunting and stump shooting (BSing). We met up with George at the pavillion mid morning and commenced to eating hot dogs and homemade soup. Rounds of laughter are good for warming cold bones too!
At Noon Doc, Ranger58, and Snakeeter showed up and quickly got themselves ready for the hunt. We split up and hit the woods. My group didn't see anything I'm not sure how Georges group did. I had to get home.
Heavy snow in the forcast for Saturday. I don't think I will make it back over. I have to drive over some roads that get really bad when it snows.
Good luck everyone!

Yes they were there..ist picture tracks.
They even went under one of the guys trucks.
They even went into the pavillion we were using.
Last photo is Snakeeater, praying to the squirrel gods to stop the incessant ridicule.
Today it is snowing....we'll see. George
So you guys make it back or should we send in the St. Bernards? Sorry have to put Dr. Pepper in the flasks no booze allowed in the Park.
Snakeeater, Doc Nock, and Ranger58 made it back OK, although Ranger tried to drop his truck on Doc's toe when they got home.
It was a good weekend. We saw some squirrel,s but not where we could hunt them. It did turn into a great stump shooting weekend though, and we all enjoyed shooting with a bit of history, telling stories, and building nutters and other kinds of flu-flu arrows.
More pictures will come I am sure as time goes by.
Maybe we can/should consolidate the pics to Dale's GPSH pic thread so we don't miss any? Whatchathink?
