I started my 69 refinish. It has the black riser (phenolic?) and what I assume are the rosewood caps The sanding is going well, but as I'm sanding down the caps, they are turning dark in places. Is that normal and will it return to the lighter color as I complete the refinish?

I'm guessing the color of the wood grain you are seeing after sanding is probably how it looked when new. The bow, more than likely, faded a bit over time. The micarta is funky to work with and do not get over zealous while sanding it.
Bummer, I liked the contrasting of the lighter tan against the black.
Brian, it will look a lot better once you get it refinished.

Once you remove the sun fade rosewood does get darker as it originally was. I also like to take a little India ink and lightly rub over the micarta and let it dry just before starting my finish. Be careful though next to any wood so you don't get any on it.
Brian, are your shooting winter leauge at Walitition Archey club this winter

Hi Doug,
Yes I'll be shooting winter league. I also opened my big mouth and will be running the 3 indoor 3D shoots. Lol
Actually, I'm looking forward to it. We're going to have fun!!
Ka bowman,
Thanks for the advice on the India Ink. That was actually my next question.
