I just bought a Longbow the name on it is Blackhawk Bows its 64" 58# @28" it looks to be edge grain red elm under clear glass. Can anyone tell me anything about it? It shoots great :bigsmyl: . Sorry I have no way to post pics
Years ago there was Blackhawk Archery which was Cravotta Bros. in McKeesport PA. If it is vintage this would be it. If it is newer I don't know.
It says Blackhawk Bows on the belly of the upper limb. Looking at it I would say 15 to 20 years old.
I never knew of the old Blackhawk company to make bows with clear glass. Must have been made by a newer small company or bowyer.
It sounds like a Cravotta Bros. Bow but like Horny Toad said I never knew them to use clear glass. I have had many of those old Cravotta Bros. Bows and never saw one with clear glass. The clear glass is from a time newer than Cravotta Bros.
well i dont know if the bow you have is like everyone else is saying the orginal blackhawk. but i do own 3 blackhawk longbows. bowyer name is jack smith. different company just a little guy.
Purpleheart - Thanks for mentioning Jacks name. Have not seen him in years. I had a osage/ceder longbow he built for me and a Hickory self bow he built for my son. Don't remember how long ago it was but the kid was about 3' tall then and now he's grown and moved on. A friend of mine had one of Jacks bows with clear glass and edge grain elm. Good shooting bows and he was a great guy. If I remember correctly, he was from Iowa.
I have never seen a Cravotta Bros.with clear glass..recurve or long bow....bowdoc
