I am trying to find a place to buy Bill Bakers book Born to the Bow. Anyone know where to get it? There old website has changed I think. Thanks, Chris.
I think it is out of print but I could be mistaken. Maybe someone in Oz will be able to help. I read while I was in Oz hunting with Bill, I wish I would have gotten one then. Joseph
I just looked up an add from a couple of years ago in Bowhunting Downunder Magazine.
"To order your copy of Bill Baker's 'Born to the Bow' simply send your postal address and $30 cheque or money order made out to James Baker, 6/17 Scott Street, Redhill, Qld. 4059."
James is Bill's son, and my guess is that he'd be pleased to send a copy of his Dad's book. The price is in Aussie Dollars, and included shipping within Australia, so you might want to add on a bit more to cover postage to the USA. And, be sure to write "Queensland 4059 Australia" instead of just "Qld. 4059" when mailing international.
The book is a good read.
Cheers, Ben
Ben do you have a phone number that I could reach him on? I don't want to send a money order if no one lives there anymore. If not I will just send a letter. Thanks, Chris.
I don't have a phone number. But you could try to find one at www.whitepages.com.au (http://www.whitepages.com.au) . And if you do call, remember to check the time-zone difference out!
No luck, But thanks Ben.
Hate to say it, but now that Bill is dead, the book may be out of circulation. He gave me two last year, and I gave one to my son to read. These were off of his shelf. His words in my book are "GREAT MEMORIES, FUN AND ADVENTURE WITH YOU IDAHO MATE, IN THE LAND OF OZ. LOOK FORWARD TO THE NEXT ONE, Billy Baker. (signed) Still have a letdown when I think of him being gone.
G'day Chris,
Mate I'll have a chat to James and see what i can do for you. I'm sure there is a few books still around. Wait out...
Al, I would appreciate that. I will buy two of them if you can get me some info. Thanks, Chris.

Opps, sorry bout that mate. I'll make a few calls now and get back to you.
A.K
Thanks again Al. Send me a PM if you get any info on them. Chris.
Hi Guys,
I just got a note from Linda Baker. Her son James is now distributing Bill's books. You can reach him at the e-mail address below:
bubsy87@gmail.com
P.S. If you like adventure on the wild side, you'll defintely enjoy this book. As Bill would have said after yet another yet hair-raising encounter "Holy Dooley Mate!"
It would be wonderful if perhaps the book could be distributed in the US by someone here on this website.
Thank you Rik, I will give him a try.
Price is US$40 including shipping, you can send a money order or cheque to James Baker, 3/574 Kingsford Smith Drive, Hamilton, QLD, 4007, Australia or I can provide my bank details via jbbaker87@hotmail.com or +61439730740 and the money can be transferred. Thanks,James
In the process of working up a tributary profile on Bill , the same thoughts have occurred to me. I will write Linda and James about shipping over stock which I would be happy to distribute with all proceeds going back to the family. If that works out, I will post it here. Don
Let me know mate if I or Brad can do anything to help. If you two are free in August we've something planned...
al
Drop me a line, Al. I've got some stuff on the schedule for August, but you know me: always up for anything. Tell Brad Lori is working on the photos. You guys will be able to download them from our Web Gallery soon. cheers mate, Don
The books are in! All proceeds go straight to eh Baker family. Please see sponsors' forum for details. Don
Thanks Don.
Is the book still available? I can't seem to find it on the sponser forum.
PM Don T mate, he'll sort you out asap. Better still email him with his address in TBM.

Thanks
I got my copy and its a great read. Its not all traditional archery mind you, but a good book about bowhunting in Australia. Written like a hunters journal, I read it to my son at bed time, he loves hunting stories. :D
Bill started off shooting longbows, but like most of us moved to the "arrow shooting thing" as he had trouble with his shoulders.
Later on in years Bill turned back to stick and string after talking to the good Dr Don T and was one of the founding members of The Traditional Bowhunters of Australia.
I still cann't believe he's gone ... I sure do miss you uncle Bill.
Al,
When I was there in 97 I wish I would have known then what I know now. According to the book, he was based out of Yeppoon, and I just happened to spend a day there while on weekend liberty from a Marine Corp training op in Shoal Water Bay. I would have really liked to meet him.
Spent more time at Shoal water myself to ever care to remember! But knowing Bill, even if you did get to his place, he would have been out hunting ...lol.
