Rob , In louisiana , they make you catch it first with a special pole , pull it up and shoot it...it just isnt too sporting here...Fla. might be different ....if Im wrong ...I just got some bad information ...the best way for me to catch one , was with my hands..and its sporting ...I am an excellent swimer , did this when I was in my 20 's alot dummer but hell of lot cuter too..#78 Mark...Kinda like steve and terry ..croc hunter...

Mark,

Here in texas, if i understood correctly, they consider archery to count as hooking them first.  Could be wrong but plan to look at it more closely.  I was thinking a 2213 sleeved over a fiberglass fishing arrow and hook it up whith gator cord.  Think it'll have enough weight out of a 70 pound pull?

Rob,

Where would you shoot him?  In the head or through the vitals?  I don't know anything about hunting them, but I always thought it'd be cool to shoot one with a bow!

Dean,

I've heard there is a spot behind the eyes about the size of a half dollar.  If you hit them there they will sink like a ton of bricks!

Rob, get in touch with me, we make a special Gator Gatter kit that has everything you need to harvest a gator with.  The kit was developed with several trappers and guides in FL and many gator have been taken with this system.  Fl allow the harvest with bows and arrows, as does LA, TX is the one you have to use a hook line on, I think.  800-222-7769.  Mark

Mark,

I talked to my cousin that runs gator hunts in Texas, and he said he was told that if the shaft is connected to a cord or line, the point actually acts as the barbed hook.

Rob S. and Mark,

It is legal to take Gators in Texas with bow and arrow as long as the arrow has a line of at least 300 pound test.  I got fixed up with a gator outfit working with Sully at Sullysbowfishing.com.

Mark, I switched to the standard Muzzy tip and fiberglass inside aluminium with honed out AMS slide.  Point is glued and pinned... Had two unsuccessful attempts the past 2 years.  one tip pulled off, (Muzzy StingRay), the other broke the tip (old style sting-0-Ree) right where the barbs are pinned.  did get both shots and fights on video though... they were great videos up to the point of failure.

You can log onto the Texas Parks and Wildlife web site for complete Gator regs...

Saltwater,

That is exactly what my cousin told me as well.  My aunt and uncle live on a tributary of Lake Texana, and there have been sightings of one that might go 20 ft!  But I am not going to tackle it!  6 - 9 ft is big enough!  Rick (Sweptwing)told me today who you were but my headache got in the way  :knothead:    Are you near the Coastal Houston Area?

Slick, check out our Gator getter arrow, it is a sleeved arrow with removeable tip that really holds in the gators, with the 640# line you can pull them around with your truck and the tip will not come out.  Mark
